Kaden Layne Harris
Kaden Layne Harris was born on February 11, 2009. A healthy, fun-loving little girl, Kaden made everyone around her smile. She blessed our lives everyday during her short 16 months. On July 10, 2010 Kaden went to sleep and woke up in Heaven. No cause could be found. Unexplained is the word used by medical examiners to describe the sudden death of an otherwise healthy person. SUD-C stands for Sudden Unexplained Death of a Child. Similar to SIDS, it is both mysterious and sudden. While SIDS affects about 1 in every 5,000 live births, SUD-C affects just 1 in every 100,000. While SIDS occurs in infants, SUD-C affects children between the ages of 1 and 4 years old.
In the months following Kaden's death it was important to me, as her aunt and as her mother's sister, to find a way to "help" ease the pain. What I came up with was Kindness for Kaden.
I developed the idea one night right before what would have been Kaden's 2nd birthday. The idea? A day of asking people to preform random acts of kindness in honor of Kaden. The results? Almost 4,000 people responded to our Facebook campaign.
So I have decided to carry out the idea to the everyday.
